SENIOR SWIMMER WIN WOMEN’S TITLE AT TEXAS SENIOR
MEET
The Woodlands, TX. Our
senior team competed in a very successful travel meet to The
Woodlands, TX. The Woodlands is just north of Houston and
they have been the most consistent and powerful swimming program in
Texas for decades. They have a brand new, incredible 50 Meter
indoor swimming complex that is better than anything in the Western
USA.
The meet also involved one
of the more powerful swimming programs of the East, Curl-Burke form
the Maryland, Virginia, DC area with over 1800 swimmers in their
program. Also, Oakland Live Y’ers Swim Team out
of Michigan, one of the best team in the
Mid-West.
While we out scored The
Woodland Swim Team, 205-195, to win the Women’s Title, OLY
took the Men’s and Combined
Titles.
Our girls were lead by
outstanding wins in the 50-100-200 back, 50 fly and 100 fly and
freestyle events. Cynthia Fascella won the 100
freestyle. Kelsey Cummings won the 1650 freestyle.
Cindy Tran won the 50-100-200 back and 50-100 fly events. The
big turn in the title chase occurred in the final four events on
Sunday. We had four swimmers final in the 100 freestyle,
Cynthia Fascella, Kelsey Cummings, Alli Gillespie and Shelby
Webber. Then the victory was secured on the final event of
the meet, as our 400 freestyle Relay dominated the
field.
Other swimmers who made the
trip were: Dari Watkins, Jenn Lim, Miranda Rouse, Ashley
Brewer, Susie Shiley, Hannah Magana, Alex Tran, and Thomas
Gillespie.
The Meet was a great success
and a huge amount of fun!
Morning practice for the
Senior Elite Group will resume Thursday morning at 6:30-8:30
AM.
Cindy Tran Does
It Again!
Golden West Swim Club swimmer, Cindy Tran, 18, capped off an
excellent high school swimming career by setting a new High School
National Record in the 100 yard Backstroke. Her time of 51.85
eclipsed the previous record by a full second.
The old record belonged to two times defending Olympic
Champion in the 100 Meter Backstroke, Natalie Coughlin with a 52.86
set in 1998. The record was broken during the finals session of the
CIF Southern Section Championships on May 14, at the Belmont Plaza
Olympic Pool in Long Beach, CA.
With the record breaking swim she
successfully defended her title in the 100 Back and made it three
straight in the process. She also was the runner up in the 50
Yard
Free.

learn skills in competitive swimming, without knowing or focusing
on physical training, you will simply acquire outstanding
levels of fitness from the effort of learning new
skills. It is a fun and easy way to acquire both
skills and physical fitness. Your child will
develop great friends in the Pathways Program that will also make
the acquisition of higher levels of fitness and skill easier than
you could ever
imagine!
How to Get
Started. If your child can swim, simply chose a
time that is convenient, fill out the online questionnaire, and
then come to your first session. We will have
your child join in the group for the initial
session. If it is what you wish to do, then you
can go to your computer and register and pay your fees
online. That is how simple it is to get

NEW NATIONAL RECORD HOLDER IN THE 100
YARD BACKSTROKE
Golden West Swim Club swimmer, Cindy Tran,
16, pull off one of the biggest upsets in this year’s Grand
Prix Meet. She upset highly favored Mary
Descenza (24-Georgia), the national Grand Prix Series High Point
leader in the 100 yard backstroke with a sizzling
52.52. Cindy jumped on the out split with a
25.31, and came home with a 27.21 split. The record came on
the final day of the meet, January 19th, that was held at the
Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach,
CA.
The time was just under the present National
Age Group Record in the Girls 15-16 year old
division. The old record belonged to two
times defending Olympic Champion in the 100 Meter Backstroke,
Natalie Coughlin with a 52.55 in
1998.
